Hip to the Jive

Brooklyn's got a hold on hip – insert typical Williamsburg observation here – and a solid grip on babyhood (Park Slope and the Heights are nearly synonymous with Bugaboos and breastfeeding). Lately the borough's all about the newest trendy ‘hood. Could Bay Ridge be the next to watch?

Saturday Night Fever may have put Bay Ridge on the map long ago. But today, the disco scene has been replaced by cosmopolitan couples and their kiddies. And fashionable parents will be thrilled to discover Hipsqueak, a new local baby and children's clothing boutique. Nicole DiAgostino, a cosmetics executive and Brooklynite, launched Hipsqueak with her husband while pregnant with her first child, once she noticed the lack of cool kids' shopping spots.

Balancing the Brooklyn vibe is a touch of Upper East Side chic: a brilliant chandelier, tasteful white woodwork and a palette of luscious pink, clean white and cheery blue. The brands run the gamut from trendy urban to classic formal, including Marie Chantal, Baby CZ, Kingsley, Imps & Elfs and Little Man, as well as cuddly toys and stuffed animals. This holiday season, Hipsqueak is offering wrapping and local delivery of gifts, as well as shipping (for a small fee) within the States.

And even better, you'll feel so in the know – even for Brooklyn.
